Holiday Wreath Auction Returns to Palm Springs, Spreading Joy—and Support—for Two Local Nonprofits

By Desert Dispatch Staff

Palm Springs, CA — The holidays are getting a creative twist this year as local artists, crafters, and makers are invited to design and donate hand-made wreaths for one of Palm Springs’ most cherished traditions: the Holiday Wreath Auction, benefiting The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert and the Palm Springs Animal Shelter.

The festive fundraiser, now entering its fourth decade, carries forward the generous legacy of the late Dick Haskamp, the beloved Streetbar owner who launched the event more than 30 years ago. What began as a local gathering among friends has become a cornerstone of desert holiday giving—an evening of art, generosity, and community spirit.

This year’s event takes place Wednesday, December 3, at Eight4Nine Restaurant and Lounge, where a live auction will complement an online silent auction featuring select wreaths. The live festivities begin at 5:30 p.m., and reservations can be made by calling (760) 325-8490.

Those wishing to contribute a wreath are encouraged to complete the online submission form and deliver finished creations to The Center (1301 N. Palm Canyon Dr.) no later than Friday, November 21, at 4 p.m.

“In honor of our late friend Dick Haskamp, and to continue his legacy of philanthropy and community support, the Holiday Wreath Auction is truly special for the Palm Springs Animal Shelter,” said Dan Rossi, Executive Director of the shelter. “It brings people together in the spirit of joy and generosity—while helping the animals who need us most.”

“The Wreath Auction is one of those events that reminds us of the magic that happens when our community comes together,” added Mike Thompson, CEO of The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert. “A huge thank you to our friends at Eight4Nine, who year after year transform their patio into a holiday wonderland.”

Online bidding will open ahead of the live event, allowing early supporters to preview and purchase wreaths crafted by local designers and community members. Each piece reflects the creativity and generosity that define the Coachella Valley’s holiday season.
